UFA hosted a live screening of the England Lionesses’ thrilling World Cup group stage victory over Denmark on Friday, with the full-time whistle bringing raucous cheers from the 24 girls in attendance at a packed-out Ockham FC clubhouse.
A fun day open to girls aged 5-13, the morning’s watch-along event was followed by an action-packed girls’ football camp of exciting games and challenges. A World Cup-themed tournament, quiz and prize-giving presentation topped off a fantastic day of football!
With the Women’s World Cup taking place across Australia and New Zealand, our young footballers had to be up bright and early for a UK kick-off time of 9.30am, ready to cheer England on. And the Lionesses did not disappoint. Scoring quickly through a Lauren James wonder-strike, England withstood some heavy second-half pressure from Denmark but held on to take a 1-0 victory.
The win also ensured a jubilant atmosphere back at Ockham as the camp-goers took their excitement out on to the pitch! Our coaches were delighted with the skills and effort on display from all those attending, with a special congratulations to ‘Team Australia’ – the camp’s tournament winners!
“Commitment to growing girls’ participation”
We were thrilled to offer this event as part of UFA’s ongoing commitment to growing girls’ participation in football, combining two key areas of the UFA girls’ football philosophy:
- A fun, inclusive learning environment for girls encouraging confidence, teamwork, leadership and creativity.
- Visibility of female role models and pathways for girls to aspire to.
At UFA we believe it is important for girls to engage with women’s football and celebrate their role models, encouraging them to feel they belong in sport and to be inspired to do their best.
We cannot wait to announce news of our future girls’ football activities – subscribe to our socials for the latest on all of our upcoming events.
